THE BWHB AWARDS

ELIGIBILITY AND CRITERIA PROCESS

The eligibility and criteria process is designed to be as fair as possible to those participating. It is our hope to share your accomplishments and efforts on our platform and celebrate everyone! Voting will take place March 14th - March 20st, 2022. Once the voting poll concludes, the winner will be announced at the Black Women Handling Business Award Ceremony on Friday, April 29, 2022. All nominees tickets have been waived.

Women in Counseling Award (Family/Children and Mental Health Counseling)

Honoring women who have shown extraordinary tenacity, advocacy, and the courage in bringing awareness, education, and healing in the lives of individuals and the community.

  • Must be a licensed clinical professional and hold a Master's degree or higher 

  • Must be a member of a counseling association whether locally or nationally

  • Must be in an active role whether in a private practice or employed with an agency

  • Must demonstrate exemplary involvement and sustained leadership among other healthcare professionals and the community

  • Have served in a volunteer role in two community-related events

  • Must actively serve on at least one board or committee

Women in Education Award (Teachers, Principles/Asst Principles/Deans/School Counselors/Adjunct Professors)

Honoring women with exceptional achievements in education and a passion for the profession.

  • K through 12th Grade 

  • Post-Secondary

  • A passion for the profession

  • A demonstrated desire to give back through public and/or community work and contribution to improving education

  • Must have continued positive change within the institutions or the community achieving goals that endorse diversity, equity, and inclusion

Women in Beauty - 1
(Licensed Hair Stylists & Barbers)

Honoring women who have contributed content, integrity, influence, and education in the hair industry.

  • Must be innovative, creative, dedicated and committed to the industry

  • Must have social media influence and have a brand impact

  • Must be innovative in the use of social media in gaining followers and visibility in increasing clientele

  • Must possess an active cosmetology license (active at least 3 years)

  • Must have established credibility in the industry

  • Must have an active Facebook and/or Instagram page (must have at least 500 authentic followers)

Women in Beauty - 2
(Professional Make-up Artist, Licensed Esthetician, & Certified Microblading and/or Microshading)

Honoring women who have contributed content, integrity, influence, and education in the beauty industry.

  • Must be innovative, creative, dedicated and committed to the industry

  • Must have social media influence and have a brand impact

  • Must be innovative in the use of social media in gaining followers and visibility in increasing clientele

  • Must have established credibility in the industry

  • Must have an active Facebook and/or Instagram page (must have at least 500 authentic followers

  • MUAs - active in profession 2+ years

  • Esthetician - Must hold an active licensed & in operation 2+ years

  • Microblading and Microshading - Must hold a reputable certification and active at least 1 year 

Women in Business Awards

(not-for-profit)

Must be an original not-for-profit (501(c3) status) early-stage with a legal business entity (2+ years) led by a woman - entrepreneurs and business owners in their professional successes and community involvement. Not-for-Profit: the business should be designed to receive monies by way of state and federal grands as well as community in-kind services. It is understood that a business that is generating revenue is not essentially profitable in its first years of operations. (Multi-level marketing business are not accepted at this time).

  • Must be visible (on social media outlets, in the community, and among peers)

  • Must have active board members (minimum of 5)

  • Website, business social media pages, and have an impact brand

  • Must prove collaboration with at least one other not-for-profit organization

  • Business registration document number (Fictitious name will not be accepted)

  • Must have visible logo and description of services

Women in Business Awards

(for profit)

Must be an original for-profit early-stage with a legal business entity (2+ years) led by a woman – entrepreneurs and business owners in their professional successes and community involvement. It is understood that a business that is generating revenue is not essentially profitable in its first years of operations. (Multi-level marketing business are not accepted at this time).

  • Must be visible (on social media outlets, in the community, and among peers)

  • Updated website, business social media pages, and must have an impact brand

  • For Profit: the business should be designed to produce revenue. It is understood that a business that is generating revenue is not essentially profitable in its first years of operations.

  • Legal entry age: 21 or older

  • One-page bio

  • Business registration document number (Fictitious name will not be accepted)

  • Must have visible logo and description of services

Women in Medicine

(Physicians-General Medicine, Dentists, & Pharmacists)

Honoring women pioneers who are paving the way for others and impacting lives for the betterment of physical and mental health and changing the face of medicine through their lives, their professions or their teaching.

  • Must possess a doctorate degree in above mentioned fields

  • Must demonstrate exemplary involvement and sustained leadership among other healthcare professionals and the community

  • Have served in a volunteer role in two community-related events

  • Must actively serve on at least one board or committee

  • Must provide one character reference letter

Women in Careers & Achievements

(Marketplace Leaders)

Honoring women in leadership (managerial and executive) who have made significant contributions through their field of service, innovation, professional development, and mentoring others over the course of their career

  • Must present letter of recommendation from reporting leader within the organization describing person’s accomplishments and why the person deserves to be a recipient

  • Must present copy of notable mention(s) of achievements within the organization (certificates, awards, etc)

  • Must present updated copy of resume or brief bio outlining career

  • Must provide two reference letters from team members sharing your contribution within the organization (past or present)

Women in the Arts & Creative  Awards

Honoring women in arts and creative work who demonstrates excellence in work of graphic & web design, advertising & marketing, Public Relations, TV & Radio, theater, music, television, poetry, music artist, film, journalism, and artwork.

  • Must be innovative, creative, dedicated and committed to the arts

  • Must have a portfolio of active work in the past 2 years

  • Must prove body of work published (recorded work)

  • Must be influential and respected in the industry

  • Must have active social media pages and has impact brand

  • Must have active reviews on social media or website

Women in Nursing

(CNA/LPN/RN/PRACTITIONER)

Women from all healthcare sectors currently active in a nursing role, including formal education and training in nursing. Women who uniquely make a difference, both on the job and in their communities.

  • Must be recognized and respected leader in nursing and health care

  • Must have been a member of the nursing profession for at least 2 years

  • Must be an active participate in community and organizational affairs, demonstrates an ability to work with others, and has an innovative outlook

Women in Law

(Attorney/Lawyer/Law Enforcement-Police Officer/Correction Officer)

Recognizing and honoring women in law who are making a remarkable difference in the legal profession. Additionally, for those who honorably put their lives on the line each day making a difference to protect and serve with integrity.

  • General counsel and law firm leaders who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and business acumen as they have guided their organizations or private practice to achieve success. 

  • Must have been a member of the law profession for at least 3 years

  • Must be an active participate in community and organizational affairs, demonstrates an ability to work with others and/or serve on a board or organization in a volunteer capacity

  • Police Officers/Correction Officer: must provide character letter from superior officer/leader

Women in Ministry

(Leadership Role and/or active ordination/license in ministry)

Recognizing and honoring women who serve in the Christian faith -- serving God and the people of God selflessly, with compassion, and love in ministry.

  • Must serve in a leadership role in some capacity of the ministry at local church for at least 2+ years

  • Must be an active member of local church serving at least 2+ years

  • Must be an active participate in community, outreach ministry, and good Godly, moral conduct

  • Must provide character reference from senior leader(s) where serving in ministry

Women in Literature

(Published Author)

Recognizing and honoring women who have written and published a book of their work in any genre. 

  • All work must have an ISBN and copyright page dated between 2016 - 2021

  • Book must be in print and/or electronic version

  • Must be a solo body of work (not accepting collaborations at this time)

  • Must provide character reference from senior leader(s) where serving in ministry
